“The world’s just spinning
A little too fast
If things don’t slow down soon we might not last.
The world’s not forgiving
Of everyone’s fears.
The days turn into months the months turn into years.
So just for a moment, let’s be still…”
– The Head and the Heart, “Let’s Be Still”

Do not be afraid.

I breathe the words in as I exhale fear. I breathe again.

Again.

And again.

My counselor has told me on several occasions, “Let your fear inform you. Let it take you to the worst-case scenario. Go to catastrophe. And then . . . keep going. Don’t spiral in catastrophe. Get to resilience. Get to grace. Get to the good on the other side of all that you fear. Play it out in your mind. Live beyond catastrophe into grace and truth and love.”

Powerful words for someone with anxiety. Essential for all of us today.

It is heavy work to process the news of the day. For those with anxiety, it can be paralyzing. So, just for a moment, may we find some space to set it all down and be still. May we find solace to breathe, to remember our hearts and our belonging, and to find grace even if we don’t have all the answers.

Do not be afraid.
